Duaa - 1 There are great many benefits and virtues for the remembrance of Allah. The following are only some of them: 1. It dismisses the Satan. 2. Pleases Allah. 3. Removes worries and depression. 4. Cheers up. 5. Brings provision. 6. Acquires the love of Allah to His slave-servant. 7. Increases the love of the slave servant to His Lord, his observance of Him, returning to Him and be closer to Him. 8. Removes any loneliness between man and His Creator. 9. Eradicates the sins. 10. Benefits the doer in times of hardships. 11. It brings about tranquility. 12. Grants security against great loss on the Day of Judgment. 13. Weeping secretly while alone, enables a slave servant to be shaded under the Shade of Allah on the Day of Judgment. 14. Remembrance of Allah would secure a person against being [willingly] forgotten by Allah. 15. It grants security against hypocrisy. 16. It is the easiest acts of worship of Allah. 17. It grants richness of the heart. 18. It removes all worries, sad nesses and depression. 19. It reminds and helps approaching the Hereafter and deny this world. 20. Remembrance of A llah is the essence of appreciation to Allah Grace. Allah takes a special pride with His slave-servants who remember Him often. 1. Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the life to come and keep us safe from the torment of the Fire (2:201) 2. Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance and make our foothold sure and give us help against those who reject faith. (2:250) 3. Our Lord! Take us not to task if we forget or fall into error. (2:286) 4. Our Lord! Lay not upon us such a burden as You did lay upon those before us. (2:286) 5. Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear, grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who deny the truth. (2:286) 6. Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate from the truth after You have guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Your grace. Verily You are the Giver of bounties without measure. (3:8) 7. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and the lack of moderation in our doings, and make firm our steps and succour us against those who deny the truth. (3:147) 8. Our Lord! Whomsoever You shall commit to the Fire, truly You have brought [him] to disgrace, and never will wrongdoers find any helpers (3:192) 9. Our Lord! Behold we have heard a voice calling us unto faith: "Believe in your Lord" and we have believed. (3:193) 10. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and efface our bad deeds and take our souls in the company of the righteous. (3:193) 11. Our Lord! And grant us that which you have promised to us by Your messengers and save us from shame on the Day of Judgement. Verily You never fail to fulfill Your promise. (3:194) 12. Our Lord! We have sinned against ourselves, and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost! (7:23) 13. Our Lord! Place us not among the people who have been guilty of evildoing. (7:47) 14. Our Lord! Lay open the truth between us and our people, for You are the best of all to lay open the truth. (7:89) 15. Our Lord! Pour out on us patience and constancy, and make us die as those who have surrendered themselves unto You. (7:126) 16. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the evildoing folk, and save as by Your mercy from people who deny the truth (10:85-86) 17. Our Lord! You truly know all that we may hide [in our hearts] as well as all that we bring into the open, for nothing whatever, be it on earth or in heaven, remains hidden from Allah (14:38) 18. Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Your presence and dispose of our affairs for us in the right way. (18:10) 19. Our Lord! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a comfort to our eyes, and give us the grace to lead those who are conscious of You. (25:74) 20. Our Lord! You embrace all things within Your Grace and Knowledge, forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and ward off from them the punishment of Hell. (40:7) 21. Our Lord! Make them enter the Garden of Eden which You have promised to them, and to the righteous from among their fathers, their wives and their offspring, for verily You are alone the Almighty and the truly Wise. (40:8) 22. Our Lord! Relieve us of the torment, for we do really believe. (44:12) 23. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins as well as those of our brethren who proceeded us in faith and let not our hearts entertain any unworthy thoughts or feelings against [any of] those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness and Most Merciful (59:10) 24. Our Lord! In You we have placed our trust, and to You do we turn in repentance, for unto You is the end of all journeys. (60:4) 25. Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and forgive us our sins, for verily You have power over all things. (66:8) Supplications Upon Waking up from Sleep “All praise is due to Allah Who sent us back alive after He caused us to die. To Him resurrection shall be.” (Bukhari, 6312 and Muslim, 2711). If a person could not sleep because of insomnia or other reasons, and continued to toss and turn on his bed, then said: “There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah alone. He has no partner. To Him belongs the kingship. To Him belongs the Praise. He is Most Capable to do everything He wants. All Praise is due to Allah. All Glory is due to Allah. There is no god but Allah. Allah is the Greatest. There is no might nor power except with Allah.” If the person then says: “O Allah! Forgive me!” Or, if the person makes any supplication at that time, his prayers would be fulfilled. Moreover, if such a person performs ablution and offers a prayer his prayers would be accepted from him (recorded). Supplications of Waking up and Getting Dressed “All praise is due to Allah, Who made me healthy, returned my soul to my body and permitted me (enabled me) to offer remembrance to Him.” (Tirmithee, No. 2707) Also read the following verses from Quran 3:190-192 “Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of Night and Day, there are indeed Signs for men of understanding. Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (with the thought): "Our Lord! Not for naught hast You created (all) this! Glory to You! Give us salvation from the Penalty of the Fire.” One should recite to the end of the Sura 3. Supplication to utter when wearing any item of clothes If a person wears a new item of clothes and upon wearing it for the first time says: “All Praise is due to Allah. It is He Who provided this clothes for me without any power or might of my own.” Such person’s sins would be wiped out. (Abu Dawoud, No. 4023) Supplication to utter when wearing a new item of clothes If a person wears a new item of clothes and upon wearing it for the first time says: “All Praise is due to Allah. It is He Who provided this for me. O Allah I ask You to grant me the best of this item, and the best of what it was made for. O Allah I seek refuge with You from the worst of this item, and the worst of what it was made for.” Such person’s sins would be wiped out. (Abu Dawoud, No. 4020) Supplication to utter when taking off an item of clothes If a person takes off an item of clothes and upon taking it of says: “In that Name of Allah.” This statement would provide a (protective) covering for him from the jinn eyes and the protection for him against watching (or looking at) the private parts of other individuals. (Sahih-ul-Jami’, No. 3610) Supplication to utter when noticing a friend wearing a new item of clothes If a person notices a friend wearing a new item of clothes and upon noticing him/her for the first time says: “(I hope, wish and pray) you (always wear new items. I hope a praiseworthy life for you. I pray for martyrdom for you (at the end of your life) and may Allah grants you the best of life in this world and in the second.” (Sahih Series, No. 352) Supplication upon eating If a person eats his meal, he must say at the beginning: “In the Name of Allah.” But, if one forgot to say it at the beginning, he must say: “In the Name of Allah at the beginning and at the end.” (Abu Dawoud, No. 3767) Supplication upon finishing a meal If a person finishes eating his meal, he must say the following: “O Allah. (Truly) You Have offered the food, granted sufficient wealth, granted rightful guidance, granted (decent) life. O Allah! To You Belongs all Praise for what You granted.” (Sahih Series, No. 71) Supplication upon eating If a person finishes eating a meal then said the following: “All Praise is due to Allah. It is He Who Provided (this food) for me and offered it without any might or power of mine.” (Abu Dawoud, No. 3348) “All Praise is due to Allah as much as He deserves. Blessed be the praise (of Allah). Allah is Self-Sufficient, and we all in need of Him always. He is truly Our Lord.” (Bukhari, No. 5458) “All Praise is due to Allah. It is He Who Provided this food, made it suitable for eating, and enabled me to excrete it.” (Abu Dawoud, No. 3851) If a person is offered any food to eat, let him say the following: “O Allah! Bless this food for us and offer us yet better than it.” If a person is offered any milk to drink, let him say the following: “O Allah! Bless this milk for us and offer us more of it.” (Tirmithee, No. 3700) What a guest should say to his host after finishing the hospitability meal “O Allah! Bless their provision and be Merciful to them.” (Muslim, No. 2055) “O Allah! Feed those who offer us this meal and offer (lawful) drinks to those who offered us to drink.” (Abu Dawoud, No. 3854) What a fasting guest should say to his host after finishing the hospitability meal “May fasting people break their fast with you. May the righteous people eat your food, and may the angels pray for you.” (Abu Dawoud, No. 3854) What a fasting person should pray upon breaking his fast? “Thirst is gone, veins are filled back again and I hope for a sure reward [from Allah].” (Abu Dawoud, No. 2357) Supplication upon leaving the house Allah’s Messenger e, upon leaving home, said: “In the Name of Allah. I trust in Allah. O Allah! I seek refuge with You against committing a mistake and causing others to commit mistakes, going astray or causing others to go astray, oppress others and be oppressed by others.” (Sound Collection of Hadith, No. 4708) Allah’s Messenger e, upon leaving home, is also reported to have said: “In the Name of Allah. I trust in Allah. There is neither might nor power except with Allah.” For such a person, it would be said [by an angel]: “Allah would suffice you all your needs. Allah would protect you against all evils, and may Allah guide you to the best. Satan would move away from the path of such a person [who announces such supplication] (Sound Collection of Hadith, No. 6419) Supplication upon heading to the mosque Allah’s Messenger e, upon heading to the mosque, said: “O Allah! Place light in my heart. [O Allah!] Place light in my tongue. [O Allah!] Place light in my hearing. [O Allah!] lace light in my eyesight. [O Allah!] Place light behind me. [O Allah!] Place light in front of me. [O Allah!] Place light above me. [O Allah!] Place light beneath me and [O Allah!] grant me light.” (Bukhari, No. 117 and Muslim No., 763)
